- Client:
- Barratt Homes South Wales
- Role:
- Consulting Civil and Infrastructure Engineers
- Services:
- Earthworks Strategy, Highways, Drainage and SAB Design
- Value:
- In excess of £100 million
Working within the wider Plasdŵr strategic infrastructure framework, Phoenix delivered the detailed engineering design for the development, including internal highways, drainage infrastructure and site access arrangements. The scheme benefitted from a ‘plug and play’ approach, with strategic access and drainage connection points provided by the wider Plasdŵr development.
Phoenix designed the site’s surface water drainage infrastructure and secured Sustainable Drainage Approval Body (SAB) approval. The SuDS strategy incorporated bioretention features and attenuation basins to provide sustainable surface water management in accordance with Welsh SuDS standards and contribute to the wider blue-green infrastructure network across Plasdŵr.
Following completion of the engineering design, detailed cut and fill modelling was undertaken to establish an earthworks strategy aimed at achieving a balance between cut and fill whilst minimising the import and export of material.
Through the integration of highways, drainage and earthworks design, Phoenix has helped facilitate the delivery of a high-quality new neighbourhood within Cardiff’s wider Plasdŵr Garden City, supporting one of the capital’s most significant residential growth areas.
